Many factors dictate the type of materials used to construct tooling. What is being molded, the type of manufacturing process, the quantity expected from a tool, surface quality expected of the molded part, and of course budget.
We have built tooling from nearly every conceivable tooling material, polyester, epoxy, vinylester, aluminum casting and billet, nickel shell, steel, and many others.
Nearly all the tooling fabrication is done in our own shop, when in the rare instance we have to sub part of the tooling build out, say to an electroformer for nickel shell, we sub the project and take responsibility for the tooling project. Accountability stays with us throughout the project.
